Travis Hunter, Shedeur Sanders Take Out $18 Million Insurance Policies Before Bowl Game
Deion Sanders is making sure that his players are taken care of.
Ahead of Saturday night's Alamo Bowl game vs. the BYU Cougars, it was revealed that Colorado will provide disability insurance for its players — including two of the biggest policies in the history of the sport for Shedeur Sanders and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter.
"It was [Deion's] idea we should get disability insurance for our athletes for this game to ensure that they played and if there was some kind of injury that they would be well taken care of," Colorado AD Rick George said of the move.
"So, we worked together on that. We're excited about it, we think it's great that all our players are playing in the game. That's what all bowl games should be like."
"We have a multitude of players that are draftable, that they received a draft grade," Coach Prime explained. "They had visibility [insurance] all season long, we want to make insure that if something were to happen, they would cover it."
"We happen to have two players that are probably going to be the first two picks of the NFL Draft. We all know who those two are and they have received, I think, the highest number of coverage that has ever been covered in college football. It far exceeds anyone that has ever played this game of college football."
According to legal insider Darren Heitner, the belief is that Shedeur and Travis each have coverage for over $18 million, which will extend through the draft process.
It's probably fair to assume that neither party hopes that they'll have to file any sort of claims between now and April. But it's good to know that in the worst case scenario two of the top players in the country can still be taken care of.
With all of the players that have sat out bowl games in recent years, it's great to see the Buffs showing up in full to San Antonio, TX. And they will both be ready to put on a show come 7:30 PM ET on ABC.
