Final FBS Head Coaching Vacancy Filled By National Title-Winning Coach
The final vacancy in the head coaching ranks of FBS for the 2025 season has been officially filled.
According to ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel, Washington State has agreed to a deal with South Dakota State head coach Jimmy Rogers to become their new head coach.
Rogers will sign a five-year deal worth an average of $1.57 million per year with the Cougars.
"Per ESPN sources, the deal for Jimmy Rogers to become the next coach at Washington State has been finalized.
Rogers is set to make an average of $1.57 million per year over the course of the five-year deal, per ESPN sources," Thamel wrote.
Rogers took over as head coach of the Jackrabbits in 2023 following the resignation of legendary head coach John Stiegelmeier, who led the team to their first-ever national championship in 2022.
Rogers immediately picked up where Stiegelmeier left off, going 15-0 in his first-ever year as a head coach and winning an FCS national title.
The 2024 season was another strong year for Rogers as his team went 10-2 in the regular season, won a share of the Missouri Valley Football Conference title, and reached the semifinal of the FCS playoffs before losing to rival North Dakota State.
Rogers has spent all but two years of his college career at South Dakota State. He played four years under Stiegelmeier as a linebacker before becoming the school's graduate assistant in 2010.
He left for just years to become a graduate assistant at Florida State but returned in 2013 and steadily climbed the coaching ladder before being appointed head coach.
Rogers replaces Jake Dickert, who left the program 10 days ago to become the new head coach at Wake Forest. Dickert had gone 8-4 this past season and had led the program to the Holiday Bowl. His final record with the program was 23-20.
